Here at ILoveMeWeed we are dedicated to supporting local businesses and helping consumers understand the importance of where they spend their dollars. One of if not the most important places is your local grow store is. Having a good grow store provides not only businesses with great products and services but patients who are looking to grow their own medicine.
Having a “homebase” for new growers to get their foot in the door and be able to ask questions is huge. We all also have been left in a pinch needing either a new pair of trim scissors or 5 and other essential items you cannot wait 2 days for shipping for. These kind of warm atmosphere homebases are also great places to meet local connections that are in the same field.
A lot of patients are too nervous to get started and having a welcoming store that is happy to help can be life changing. This is due to the fact a lot of patients aren’t able to afford the amount of medicine they truly need to live their best life and growing would provide them with an abundance. We have covered before in our article How To Beat The Winter Blues (S.A.D) + Get Cannabis in Return the act of growing Cannabis is medicine itself.
If you are a medical patient or someone who’s been interested in growing definitely go check out your local grow store. Don’t be afraid to ask questions they are glad to help! We all were beginners at everything at the start after all. Now on to the event recap!
Cannabis Farmers Union is a locally owned and operated grow store in Oxford, Maine. Cannabis “F.U.” is opened everyday from 10am-6pm to make sure you have your grow needs when you need them. This past weekend on June 29th they held their first Shin Dig a way to give back to their customers.
It was a day full of shenanigans from a delicious free lunch served by Beast Feast and live music provided by Shark Martin with raffles and giveaways and live art. There was even the Dantes Challenge a timed relay race consisting of 4 people. This was no ordinary relay race but instead a true test of ones “Grow Manship”.
The first person had to run a bale of pro-mix and set it on an X. Then the second leg had to use bamboo to bring a ball that represented a seed into a pipe. After the third was to bring a 5gallon bucket of water to pop out the ball in the pipe. Then the fourth had to run over a joint and the 4 had to blaze it down. In case you can’t tell by now these guys know how to have a good time!
The food provided by Beast Feast was absolutely delicious, it was a BBQ lunch with multiple options for everything including sides. But being as we are deep in New England can you really have a Shin Dig without some seafood? Cannabis Farmers Union didn’t think so either. They went all out and steamed a massive number of steamers.
You know its a Shin Dig when you are smoking a Jibbah serving the Steamahs
Whether you could wait for dessert or the munchies got to you and you couldn’t wait for dessert there were the decadent Holy Potato donuts to satisfy your sweet tooth. Not only was the food good but so was the company, everyone was truly having a great day kicking back relaxing with their families.
There were some Cannabis vendors and a lot of Cannabis Nutrient companies and other grow companies. A perfect opportunity for growers to directly meet face to face with companies they otherwise would be speaking with over emails or the phone.
Whether you brought your own stash or had to re up at one of the few vendors there was some serious fire. With 3 vendors Single Malt Melts, Crooked Jaw Farms and Other Level Gardens you had a lot of options for Flower and Rosin. Single Malt Melts is one of the OGs of the ILoveMeWeed platform and has been constantly putting out extremely quality true craft products. You can find out more about Nick the man behind the brand in our Get To Know Your Community with him.

that this is fresh well cured medicine!
The music provided by Shark Martin kept the vibes going all day. Playing a range of songs from a couple Grateful Dead tunes all the way to reggae classics but my personal favorite was a cover of The Who’s Eminence front which I just heard for the first time this summer and have been really getting into it. It’s a badass song with killer guitar and vocals so definitely check it out if you haven’t. Shark Martin did an excellent job at covering it, and they clearly know rock n roll to pick such an obscure song. Which I really appreciated, and it got me jamming for sure.
Jamming with a pallet full of coco that will eventually grow Cannabis... This is the Maine way!

Sure you've been on the Dark Side Of Moon but until you get to Maine you've never been on the Dark Side Of Loon!
There was also live art by the spray painting crew 99Cent Autumn Gold and Trackside Whiskey. You could also bring some art home with you from a few various art booth vendors. I didn't get a chance to catch their name nor did they have a card. But they had some great stuff! I really liked their bertha painting.

If you didn't get enough shenanigans After the Shin Dig you could keep the shenanigans going until 9pm at the the after party located at the Oxbow Beer Garden. Oxbow Beer Garden is known for its large selection of craft beers as long as their unique pizza. They are often hosting great local events!
