Get To Know Your Community: Crooked Jaw Farm

Hello and welcome! Thanks for being here and giving the community the opportunity to get to know you better. Please introduce yourself.

Hello everyone! We are Seth and Alex, the proud owners and operators of Crooked Jaw Farm. We cultivate at our farm in Greenwood, over in the western Maine mountains. If you've seen us around at local community events or out-and-about, you've probably met Alex. Seth is usually busy with the cultivation side of things and doesn't get out of the grow as often.

We have a deep passion for cannabis and feel incredibly fortunate to wake up each day and do what we love. As a soon-to-be husband and wife team, we cherish the opportunity that the Maine medical community provides us to collaborate with so many other like-minded, small family-owned brands and businesses.

With a name like Crooked Jaw there’s gotta be a story behind the name. What is it?

Seth’s jaw is a little crooked, it’s as simple as that! With the help of a talented family artist, we incorporated the jaw along with a rendition of our red barn into our logo. We've been pleasantly surprised by how many people connect with our brand and logo, often sharing their own crooked jaw stories with us. It's been a wonderful way to build connections with patients!

What is your history with Cannabis?

We are long-time consumers, with Seth having over 15 years of cultivation experience. Alex, a lifelong Mainer and long-time patient, started working with Seth quickly after they met in 2021 to build the Crooked Jaw Farm brand. Since then, we have been fortunate enough to continue growing our business. We take pride in our personal connections to the benefits of medicinal cannabis, and we believe our product reflects our unwavering commitment to quality and consistency.

Favorite Strains from back when you first started smoking?

Seth will often refer to his cut of Super Silver Haze as “the one that got away”. If anyone knows where we could find it again, hit us up.

Favorite thing about the Maine Medical Cannabis scene?

The coolest and most rewarding aspect of our work is undoubtedly the community. Not only do we get to meet some pretty inspiring patients, but we’ve built meaningful

relationships with so many other caregivers. We've never experienced an industry with such a high level of support, collaboration, and camaraderie.

It's truly inspiring to see businesses working together and numerous trade organizations advocating daily for caregiver and patient rights. We really value the personal relationships we've built within the med community. These connections have brought us so much support, allowing us to grow our brand and share ideas, laughter, and even our challenges.

What are Crooked Jaw Farms current grow methods?

Our indoor facility features two rooms, each equipped with 12 HPS lights. We utilize coco as our growing medium, though we have started to make the transition back to pro mix, and we use 1-gallon pots with a drip irrigation system. Our nutrient regimen is based on Front Row Ag, with additional supplements as needed to support plant health and growth such as calcium and other micronutrients.

To maintain consistency and optimize our processes, we rely on AROYA monitoring software. This system allows us to track moisture content, nutrient levels, and various environmental factors, ensuring that our plants receive the best possible care.

You all at Crooked Jaw Farm are avid pheno hunters always searching for the next great strain for your patients. What are some things you look for in genetics?

We prioritize aroma, flavor, and effects in our selection process. We are particularly excited about strains with unique terpene profiles. While we appreciate the visual appeal of a good-looking product, that’s just an added bonus! We don't place excessive importance on THC percentages when hunting, however, we do maintain some high-testing strains for patients who seek more potent options.

Any new strains patients can look forward to you guys in the near future?

We've recently introduced Plasma Gas #8 (KushCo OG x Falcon-9) and Neon Sunshine #3 (Zkittlez x Falcon-9), both Falcon-9 crosses from Exotic Genetix, to the menu. These phenos have impressed us with their flower quality and washing capabilities. Additionally, we've recently acquired cuts of Moroccan Peaches, Spritzer, and GG4, which we're eager to grow and wash for the first time.

Looking ahead, we have a treasure trove of promising genetics to pheno-hunt through. We're particularly stoked about Lazer Fuel (Gary Payton x Falcon-9) and Bottom Bird (Jigglers x Falcon-9) from Exotic Genetix, as well as The Grinch (Lemontree s1 x Strawberry Diesel Mcfly), Lemon Guava Gorilla Wreck (Gorilla Wreck x Guava Royale), and Gilroy (Lemontree s1 x Legend OG x White OG) from Swamp Boys Seeds.

In our efforts to learn more and offer a wider range of meds to our patients, we've been washing and pressing all of our hash rosin in-house. We recently discovered something truly special in our Peanut Butter Breath live hash rosin and can't wait to wash some of these new genetics.

What is your favorite part of the growing process?

Pheno hunting is one of the most thrilling aspects of the growing process, and our favorite. There's a unique excitement in the unknown and the potential discovery of a new genetic expression that stands out. It's particularly rewarding when you find a pheno that is exceptional and unique to your collection. Working with reputable breeders ensures that the genetics you’re exploring have been carefully refined over time. At Crooked Jaw, we have a special fondness for seeds from Exotic Genetix and Swamp Boys Seeds, as they consistently provide top-notch genetics that make the hunt even more exciting.

I have to commend you all at Crooked Jaw Farm for your drying and curing technique it really stands out. Drying and Curing is something that is absolutely as crucial as growing the plant itself. Instead of rushing the process you all clearly take your time and I wanted to let you know it shows.

Thank you for sharing this with us. Curing is something we always feel like we can improve upon, so it’s nice to hear that you think we’re moving in the right direction.

Crooked Jaw Farms offers a wide range of products from hand trimmed flowers to solventless and solvent concentrates as well as edibles. What are some of your personal favorite ways to medicate with your products?

We are flower people at our core. We typically have  rotating kitchen bongs to keep us going throughout the day. Plasma Gas #8 and Bananaconda are our current flower obsessions.

One of our newest products on the menu- our Hash Rosin Gummies- are our new favorite indulgence. Our Lime OG Hash Rosin Gummies are a great daytime fix. The sativa-leaning Lime OG provides a refreshing burst of "chill" energy, and thanks to the hash rosin, you won't experience the heavy effects often associated with other oil-based edibles. Plus, they're vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and contain no artificial colors or high fructose corn syrup.

Where can patients find your products? Does Crooked Jaw offer direct to patient sales?

You can visit our website at www.crookedjawfarm.com to find a list of all the storefronts and caregivers that carry our products. Additionally, we frequently update our Instagram story with announcements about new drops. We also offer direct-to-patient sales and are always welcoming new patients.

Will Crooked Jaw Farm be attending any events in the upcoming future?

We are stoked to announce that we will be participating in the Maine Cannabis Fair on September 28th! We are incredibly excited for this event and can't wait to see everyone there. In October, we’ll be returning to one of our all-time favorite events, the Farmer’s Market at Sugar Leaf Co. on October 19th!

Thanks for being here and giving the community the opportunity to get to know you better. Closing thoughts / Feel free to add anything else

“The only thing that should be crooked about your cannabis is the jaw on the packaging.”
