Get To Know Your Community: Medible Delights

Written By: Dillon Cate

Medible Delights is an awesome name, is there a story behind the name?

Thank you! There is a small story that has evolved with us. Our name came one night while we were smoking some of our first harvest of flower. Edible arrangements were big at the time and I think part of me pulled some inspiration from that, knowing our plan was to create edibles.

It also was a nice play on words with being medical caregivers and Maine’s abbreviation of course is ME. As we expanded into recreational we felt like the name still fit with who we are as a Maine family run edible company. The delights or delightful part of our name just felt right, it’s a term I use often when I enjoy things and I appreciate its as a mantra

for our company and life – Stay Delightful!

What is your history with Cannabis?

Cannabis has been apart of my life for as long as I can remember now. I personally started, like many others; looking for a source of relief. As a student and athlete I found tremendous benefit from cannabis both as a recovery aid and a sleep aid. I was able to educate many of my family about the benefits which lead to the inception of what Medible Delights is today.

Over the past 10 years we have dove into many aspects of cannabis from growing, extracting, and of course baking. As the industry has evolved so have we, starting from a bag of flower and a request from a caregiver friend of ours, we made our very first version of our salve. From there our eyes opened to the potential even more. If my math is right, over the years we have created over 80 different products and doses. We love our model because it allows us the flexibility for feedback and patient requests, which has led to more product ideas than we ever imagined.

Any favorite strains from back in the day?

There’s so many good strain, especially now. If I had to pick some I haven’t smoked in a while it would be blue dream or chemdawg because they were some of my first. I think there is always nostalgia for strains you don’t get to smoke much anymore.

I’m also a huge fan of any landrace strain, which seems few and far between in the Maine market right now but not impossible to find. Flavor is number 1 for me, always.

What was your first edible experience like?

I think a lot of people have horror stories but I was one of the lucky ones to have a good first edible experience. If I remember correct I believe they were some melted down jolly ranchers a friend had made. Luckily this friend knew how to dose and didn’t use raw plant material. I had just had surgery on my arm and was in a cast. I was prescribed some pretty strong painkillers and I really didn’t think I needed them so I wanted to try out edibles.

I spent the rest of that afternoon melted into a couch giggling with some friends of mine. I ended up buying more of those candies  and it helped me get through my recovery. From then I was a fan of the potential and longevity of edibles. This was quite a few years before we started our company and before legalization, but absolutely when I started dreaming about the future of cannabis.

You guys at Medible Delights offer delicious baked goods in a market full of candy edibles that have much longer and stable shelf lives which attract companies to make them vs the much shorter shelf life of baked goods.

But I am going to be honest you can only eat so many gummies and lollipops before you start to get tired of them. What are some of your favorite baked goods that Medible delights produces?

I couldn’t agree more. Don’t get me wrong, there’s absolutely a place for those products and we do make a good selection of gummies and hard candy. I personally find that I like the affects of having something baked in and find that in many situations, it hides/ compliments the cannabis flavor better.

I explain to people all the time that high sugar-based edibles are processed faster by your body compared to products higher in fats or protein which take your body longer to process, in turn making the affects longer.

Some of my favorite baked goods we make are our brownies, cheesecakes, whoopie pies, banana bread, baklava, thin mints, and our caramel delight cookies. These are some of my favorites because I find them the hardest to resist when making!

Medible Delights offers products to both the Medical Use market and the Recreational Market. What products do you offer on the medical market, and what products do you offer the recreational market?

We do! With our focus on creating edibles, we work with some of our favorite growers and processors in Maine to cater our storefront to what our patients are looking for. I am a big fan of flavor and quality as well as trying to focus on organic flower in our storefront. That is why I carry brands like Weaving Genetics, Papermill, Oasis Refinery, Casco Botanical, High Road, Blue Sky, Terra Horta & more. We appreciate working with other brands that hold our high quality craft ideals.

What is your dose range on products?

We make products as low as 2.5mg and as high as you want! Right now we offer products at 1000mg but custom options we can dose higher for patients.

Where can patients find your products? What are the days & hours of Medible Delights Lewiston, Maine storefront?
