Hello and welcome! Thanks for being here and allowing the community the chance to get to know you better. Please introduce yourself.
Hi, and thank you! First, I want to say how much I appreciate the time and hard work you are putting into ILoveMEWeed. It is not an easy task and I look forward to watching this space grow!
I’m Jess Verry, the chef behind Sola Edibles. My partner Chris Brannock is the other half of our small but mighty company. He is the one you’ll see on the road putting in the miles for us while I spend most of my time in the kitchen making our edibles.
Where did the name Sola come from?
When I first started thinking about names for the company I knew I wanted something positive and uplifting. To me Sola means soul, light and good health.
What is your history with Cannabis?
I had a series of negative experiences when I was younger which has given me a lot of empathy for people that have also had similar experiences or are afraid to try it. I came back around and started low and slow and now I wouldn’t live without it! I’m one of those people with an incredibly low tolerance. I’ve found that when I talk about my experiences it has helped me to educate other people on dosing and usage. Overall, it has brought more value to what I do, especially when I can teach someone that has had a bad experience or no experience how to have a good one!
Favorite thing about Cannabis?
I’m constantly amazed at what a versatile plant it is! I’ve been learning more about all the different cannabinoids and how they can help with different health issues. I’m currently really interested in how cannabis has the potential to help treat opioid addiction.
Cannabis has a way of connecting people. I’m in awe of all the talented people doing amazing work in this community and am grateful for the groundwork they have laid for me to be able to make a living doing what I love.
Was there something particular that made you interested in starting an edible company?
I’ve always been interested in food, cooking and I like working for myself. I used to be a cheese maker with Silvery Moon Creamery at Smiling Hill farm. That opened my eyes to the agricultural community in the state and I knew I’d come back to it someday.
The trigger for starting Sola was I just couldn’t find gummies I liked and trusted. I challenged myself to make gummies that were all natural and had no artificial anything but also tasted good! Chris and I started sharing them with friends and demand grew to the point where we decided to jump in and start a business. I’m grateful every day for the feedback I get from patients and dispensaries. Knowing that we are helping people with very serious conditions to end of life care and everything in between has been the fuel that keeps Sola going. I want to have the best, highest quality gummies possible at the most affordable value I can offer.
Sola edibles are made out of only the finest ingredients while not using any artificial or chemicals in the process. You also only source the finest starting full spectrum materials while taking it a step further and get certified lab results for the materials. Your gummies are even melt proof! Meaning you can safely take them to the beach or accidentally leave them in a car and they won’t melt together in a mush. This results in the incredible high quality and potent products you produce. You are clearly very passionate about the products you produce. You offer products in multiple starting materials and doses. What are some of the starting materials and doses you are currently making?
Our starting materials include 100% full spectrum c02 extracted oil for the majority of our edibles. We also use hash rosin, RSO and full spectrum CBD.
We have dosing as low as 2.5mg each and up to 300mg each! We have had great feedback on the high dosed gummies that we launched recently. I’m really happy that we are able to offer them. They are a really good value especially for patients that don’t want to eat a bunch of candy to get the medicine they need.
What are some of the flavors and consistencies Sola is currently making?
The fan favorite has been blueberry flavor! Considering we are in Maine, not a big surprise. We offer multi flavor packs in our core line of sativa, indica and hybrid gummies. They come in citrus (lemon, lime and orange), berry (strawberry, blueberry and blackberry) and tropical (pina colada, mango and passionfruit). I’m always testing and adding new flavors like watermelon, black currant and peach coming out soon! We offer a wide dosing range from 2.5mg each to 300mg each.
What would you recommend to a new patient when they are making their first edible purchase?
I love talking to new patients. I always recommend low and slow but, I also like to have frank conversations about expectations and why they are looking for edibles in the first place. A simple back and forth can go a long way with a little education about what our products are about and why a RSO 4:1 might be a better fit than a 250mg sativa or vice versa. When people try a full spectrum edible for the first time it can be a very different experience from distillate.
Any new creations patients can look forward to from Sola edibles in the future?
Experimenting in the kitchen is so much fun! The science of candy making is just fascinating. I have lots of ideas I’m working on but my favorite right now is trying to figure out how to make skittles.
What kind of edible services do you offer to caregivers?
We wholesale direct to medical dispensaries. We hope to be in the AU market in the relatively near future. I’m always up for white label opportunities and creative collaborations!
Where can patients find your products?
Our products can be found in medical dispensaries mostly around southern Maine but we are now up in the Augusta/Waterville area also. We hope to keep moving north as bandwidth allows! Best place to find locations is to search Weedmaps. We are also a part of the ILoveMeWeed directory and will be apart of the app coming soon.
